Experience OA High Adventure This Summer!

Picture yourself canoeing throughout the boundless lakes of northern Minnesota or Ontario, Canada while providing service in the wilderness around you; picture yourself snorkeling, kayaking, and fishing in the clear waters of Dry Tortugas National Park and the Florida Keys, conducting conservation projects that benefit future generations of park-goers; picture yourself on top of the Tooth of Time at Philmont, having successfully completed a week of trail work and now onto a week of trekking through the mountains of New Mexico. All this and more is possible through OA High Adventure.

Offered in multiple sessions throughout the summer, OAHA has opportunities for all Arrowmen. Consider Wilderness Voyage. With two-week sessions running June through August, Wilderness Voyage offers Arrowmen the experience of portaging through the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Similarly, Canadian Odyssey provides a similar experience in the waters of Quetico Provincial Park in Ontario, Canada.  Participants have the opportunity to leave their mark on the Boundary Waters that will enable thousands of visitors each year to better enjoy their experience. Trail work involves restoring and protecting trails that have existed for centuries and are in dire need or repair.

Or, you can find yourself providing service to Philmont Scout Ranch during the once and a lifetime opportunity of OA Trail Crew. The first week focuses on trail construction and maintenance under the guidance of Philmont trail crew foremen. The second week is a seven-day backpacking trek that is designed by the participants. The program is not simply building trail and hiking as it is ultimately a journey that challenges Scouts mentally, physically, and spiritually. And if you attend this summer, you might find our very own Section Chief and Vice-Chief working right alongside you.

Another option is the OA Summit Experience. Four days of the program will be focused on building or maintaining trail around the Summit Bechtel Reserve and the New River Gorge National River area. The remainder of the experience will revolve around whitewater rafting, along with mountain biking, climbing, and participation in other Summit activities. Participants will not only build trail, but also bonds of brotherhood as they start their high adventure journey.

As you can see, there are many opportunities for OA High Adventure. So what are you waiting for? Now is the time to experience all of what OAHA has to offer. See you on the trail!
